Wolverhampton is often considered to be part of Birmingham, but is actually a large town in its own right. During the last century the town became famous as part of the Black Country, so-called because of the pollution associated with its thriving industrial areas. While Wolverhampton retains its reputation as a major manufacturing centre, today it is equally well known for its excellent shopping centres, nightlife and sporting venues.
