Newcastle was once famous as the UK's coal capital. The City boasts six bridges over a dramatic riverfront, and six theatres; the grandest of these, the Theatre Royal, is the third home to the Royal Shakespeare Company. Almost hidden behind the Georgian and Edwardian shop fronts is the modern indoor shopping centre of Eldon Square, one of the UK's most successful city centre malls. Beneath old and new buildings run the trains of Tyneside's rapid transit system, the Metro.

Uniquely, the City also contains substantial areas of rural tranquility, in the leafy valley of Jesmond and the open pasture of the Town Moor (beside the University); within five minutes' walk of the Metro trains, one may lean on a fence and watch cattle grazing.

At night, Newcastle comes alive on a scale unmatched elsewhere in England. The bubbly night-life of the City with its carnival atmosphere is widely renowned. Many students and visitors remark on the warmth and good humor of the local people, the Geordies, who make the modern City so lively.

Newcastle has the largest shopping center in Europe (Metro Center) with a very divers and multicultural society.

HEATON

Very popular with students with a wide range of properties from houses through to maisonettes. The area around Hotspur Street, Warwick Street and Malcolm Street is within a short walk of Newcastle City Centre, whereas areas around Chillingham Road have easy access to transport links and retail facilities.Heaton has a huge selection of takeaways and decent pubs are generally affordable and usually less crowded and noisy than those in Jesmond

There are loads of bus routes round Heaton leading to most of the major places in Newcastle, so it's great for people without cars. Streets are small and narrow.

Heaton doesn't have a classy bar district, but there are a number of local pubs - some better than others. Heaton is a place for the student who have style but more sense than cash.

JESMOND

Jesmond is a leafy suburb of Newcastle with two Metro stations and a number of bus routes going through it. There is a large quantity of student housing in Jesmond, but prices can be expensive. Most houses in the area are no further then 5 minutes away from the crazily trendy Osborne Road. Jesmond is basically the place to be seen and to live in, if you would rather look cool than be able to afford food then Jesmond’s the place to be.

SANDYFORD

is situated within walking distance from Newcastle City Centre and popular with students on budget finances as they save on transport costs. their are also some local retailers in the area, and their are frequent buses from Jesmond Road.
